AI SDR, compared

An AI SDR you rent, or an outbound engine you own.

Every AI SDR product makes the same pitch: a digital rep that researches, writes and sends around the clock. Some of that is true. This page separates what the category does well from what the monthly seat quietly costs you, and shows how the install uses the same AI without you renting it.

What an AI SDR is, underneath the demo.

Strip the branding away and an AI SDR platform is three things bolted together: a contact database, a language model that writes emails from a template and a few scraped facts, and a sending layer with a dashboard on top. You buy it by the seat or by the number of contacts it touches, and the price commonly lands between a thousand and several thousand dollars a month once you are past the starter tier.

The strong part is real. The model does not get bored, it does not forget to follow up, and it can look at a prospect's job title, company news and LinkedIn activity in a second. The weak part is also real. The copy is written from the platform's idea of your business, not yours, so it reads like every other AI SDR email your prospects received that week. And the whole thing runs on the vendor's domains and infrastructure, which means your deliverability is shared with every other customer on the platform.

The question is not whether AI should write your outbound. It should, and the install uses it for exactly that. The question is who owns the context the AI writes from, and who owns the pipes it sends through.

Rented seat or owned system: the comparison.

Line itemAI SDR platformThe Outbound Install

Data sourceThe platform's database, one sourceApollo, AI Ark and signal feeds, every address verified before sending

Who tunes itYou, through the vendor's settingsBuilt by a founder who has shipped twenty-plus of them, then handed to you

The line that matters most is the second one. An AI SDR knows the market. It does not know you. It will cheerfully produce ten thousand emails matching a job title, and that is the easy half. The hard half is deciding which of them is worth writing to this week and what to say, and that decision is only as good as the context the model was given.

How the install uses AI without renting it.

The install runs on Claude Code, the same class of model the AI SDR vendors wrap in a dashboard. The difference is what it reads before it writes. Stage one of the install is the company brain: your positioning, ideal customer profile, offer and voice, written once and stored in your own GitHub and Notion. The system reads that before it touches a prospect, which is why the emails sound like you and not like a platform.

From there it connects to the tools you already use, so nothing new needs learning. Lists go into your sheet, deals into Attio or HubSpot, replies into Slack. Target lists are built from named people and deduped against your CRM, with every email and mobile verified by MillionVerifier and BounceBan before it sends. Buying signals such as funding, hiring, job changes and social engagement decide who gets written to this week. Campaigns go out through Smartlead and HeyReach from domains that are yours.

You approve the sequences before anything sends. The test is simple: if you would not send it yourself, it does not send. The full tool stack and what it costs at each volume is on the costs page →

Who should buy an AI SDR anyway.

If you want to test whether outbound works for your offer at all, and you have a month and a credit card, an AI SDR trial is a cheap experiment. The same is true if you sell a low-ticket product where a generic email is good enough because the volume carries it.

The install is for the business that already knows outbound is the channel and wants to stop renting it. It suits a founder or sales lead with a real offer, a deal size that makes a qualified meeting worth hundreds or thousands of dollars, and enough patience to spend about four hours across thirty days getting the context right. After that, the AI does the work, your team reads the replies, and nobody sends you a seat invoice.

If the system does not generate qualified meetings in ninety days, the fee comes back and you keep the domains, the accounts and the system.

Questions we get asked

Before you book a call.

What is an AI SDR?

Software that researches prospects, writes outreach and sends it, standing in for a human sales development rep. Underneath it is a contact database, a language model and a sending layer sold as a monthly seat.

Is the install just another AI SDR?

No. It uses the same kind of AI, but the context it writes from, the domains it sends from and the data accounts it uses are all yours, built inside your business and handed over after 30 days. There is no seat fee.

Will the emails sound like AI wrote them?

Only if you let them. The system is trained on your positioning, offer and voice before it writes anything, and you approve every sequence before it goes out.

How much do AI SDR tools cost?

Commonly a four-figure monthly fee once you are past the starter tier, priced per seat or per contact. The install is a one-off fee, plus roughly $500 a month in tool costs paid straight to the providers.

Can my team run the AI after you leave?

Yes. The work shows up in your sheet, CRM and Slack, which your team already uses. Two sixty-minute training sessions cover launching a campaign and reading replies.

Want this running in your business?

Thirty days to install. Ninety days to prove it. If it doesn't generate qualified meetings, full refund.

One fee, paid once, in exchange for a case study. Tool costs go directly to the providers, and nothing recurring comes from us.
